Terri Thompson

Therisa "Terri" LeeAnn Thompson 66 of Hallowell, KS passed away in Hallowell, KS on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.

Terri was born in Joplin, MO on August 18, 1955, to Phyllis (Buttram) and Othel Thompson, and was adopted and raised by her maternal grandparents Mildred and Archie Simpson shortly after. 

She attended Parkwood High School, graduating with the Class of 1973, and later attended Franklin Tech Nursing School in the late 80s. Terri worked as a charge nurse for Medicalodges of Neosho, MO and Columbus, KS, and also worked as a caregiver through Skil. 








She enjoyed camping down at the river in her free time and was passionate about disco music and old Rock N’ Roll. She was the “Unofficial Kansas Deer Magnet”, a title that she earned after hitting a total of twelve deer in her car… once, even four at one time!

Terri is survived by David Barrett, her "other half" for over 20 years; her daughter, Jennifer Burns (and husband Edwin) of Joplin, MO; daughter Amber Keyser (and wife Trish) of Chanute, KS; son Rusty Goff (and wife Kristen) of Independence, KS; 10 grandchildren Karlie Spragg, Hunter Huffman, Jacob Goff, Archer Huffman, Amie Goff, Lillyanna Keyser, Kysen Spragg, Cheyenne Goff, Abigail Goff, and Gabriella Goff; one great-granddaughter on the way, Kennedy Sue; four brothers, Owen Thompson of Miami, OK, Tommy Thompson of Wyandotte, OK, Scott Duncan of Bartlesville, OK, and Norman Duncan, Jr. of Galena, KS; five sisters, Cheryl Martin (husband, Kenny) of Tulsa, Mary Brennfoerder (fiancé, James) of Midwest City, OK, Leta Bauman (husband, Scott) of Moore, OK, Judy Duncan of Joplin, MO, and Lisa Duncan residence unknown; and numerous friends that she considered her family.

Terri was preceded in death by her parents Othel Thompson, Phyllis Duncan, Archie Simpson, and Mildred Simpson; her siblings Clint Buttram, Sandy Duncan, Bobbie Duncan, Mark Duncan, and Nancy Ackerson.

A memorial service will be held at Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 28, 2022, with her nephew, Pastor Keith Buttram officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren that she loved so dear: Karlie Spragg, Hunter Huffman, Jacob Goff, Archer Huffman, Amie Goff, Lillyanna Keyser, Kysen Spragg, Cheyenne Goff, Abigail Goff, and Gabriella Goff. Private burial of cremains will take place at Ottawa Indian Cemetery immediately following the service.
