Carey Leonard

James “Carey” Leonard, age 61, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Carey was born February 14, 1960 to the union of Henry and Beverly (Steele) Leonard. He grew up in Webb City, Missouri and was a graduate of Webb City High in 1978. 

Carey married his best friend Carol McGinnis on May 25, 1979 in Webb City, Missouri and together they shared 42 beloved years. He loved fishing with family and friends at his mom’s cabin on Grand Lake in his younger years.








He enjoyed sitting on the porch, drinking coffee, telling stories, and visiting with his good friend Harry for many hours. He was a people person and never met a stranger. He loved watching his favorite movie saga, Star Trek. But most of all he loved visiting with people and being around his family.

Carey was preceded in death by his father, Henry Leonard; son, Michael Leonard; uncle, Ben Leonard; and aunts, Bonnie Jones and Betty Johnson.

Carey is survived by his wife, Carol Leonard; daughter, Julie Marshall (Matt); mom, Beverly Leonard; brother, Scott Leonard (Jeanne); uncle, Bob Leonard; five grandchildren, Marcie, Matthew, Serenty, Michael Jr., and Adriana; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; close dear friends, Harry, Jeanna, and Kathy.

Cremation arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
