Don Mathes

Donald Ray Mathes, age 71, Rogers, AR, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at his home.

Donald was born January 6, 1952, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, son of the late John F. Mathes and Myrtie (Patterson) Mathes. He moved to Joplin where he graduated from Parkwood High School. He then enlisted into the United States Navy where he proudly served our country for 22 years. 

After his military service he worked for some time as a truck driver for TMC, before going to work for Wal Mart. He continued working for Wal Mart after moving to Arkansas and enjoyed his time with them until his retirement. Donald was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and enjoyed watching them, but his best times were spent with his wife and family, especially his grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by Annette Olivia Mathes.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Mathes; children, Daniel Mathes (Cassie) of Chattanooga, TN., Erik Mathes (Stacy) of Pittsburg, KS., Dawn Mathes of St. Charles, MO, Andrea Mathes of Joplin, MO; stepchildren, Todd Giffing, Matthew Giffing (Samantha); brothers, Ronald Mathes (Linda) of Bowling Green, OH, Johnny Mathes (Argie) of Joplin, MO; 11 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter, Annette Lynn.

Graveside services will be Friday, April 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary prior to the service on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
