Lina Tennis

Lina Marie Tennis, age 77 of Joplin, Missouri, received her eternal reward on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. Lina was born on January 4, 1947 in Picher, Oklahoma to the late George H. and Lina (Hansford) Ellis.

Lina graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1965. She worked as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell from 1965-1977. 








It was during that time that she met and married the love of her life Danny N. Tennis on February 1, 1969. She was able to leave her job and became a full-time homemaker. She took pride in raising her kids. Lina did so much for so many people-too numerous to put into words! She volunteered with the Boy and Girls Scouts, as well as active at Journey Church of Joplin.

Other than her parents, Lina was preceded in death by her husband, Danny on January 11, 2013; his parents, Henry and Bertha Tennis; sister, Mary Ellis; brother, Larry Ellis; brother-in-law and sister in-law, Edward and Joan Tennis; brother in-law, Wayne Dunn.








Those left to honor Lina’s life include her son, Jeffrey Tennis (Michele) of Seneca; daughter, Tracy Boyd (John) of Carl Junction; Daughter of the heart Carol Tennis of Joplin brothers, Herman Ellis (Alice), Bill Ellis (Linda) and Jay Ellis (Sharon); sisters, Joyce Dunn and Betty Smith; brother-in-law and sister in-law, Larry Tennis (Joyce); sister-in-law, Felicia Ellis; grandchildren, Emily Bratcher (Kaleb), Micaela Cruse (Keifer), Brenlea Koger (Chance), Gabriel Tennis, Lacy Roberts (Dalton) Grandchildren of the heart Katie Martin, Brian Hiatt(Nella) Becca Martin; great-grandchildren, Owen Bratcher, Mason Roberts and Emberlynn Hiatt; plus many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Funeral services are planned for Monday, June 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Journey Church 301 S McKinley in Joplin. Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 2nd from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bill and Virginia Leffen Center for Autism, in care of the mortuary. Lina’s wishes were to be cremated following the service. Her ashes will be interred at the Carl Junction Cemetery at a later date.




Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
