Phyllis Imogene Weathers Thomas, 83, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on June 30, 2024, at her home after an illness.
She was born on October 9, 1940, in Joplin, Missouri, to the late St. Clair Rodgers and Lucille Wright Rodgers.
Phyllis began her career in health care at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., in 1958. She graduated from Joplin Junior College (now, Missouri Southern State University) with a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree and from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College with a Registered Nursing (RN) degree. She retired from Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas.
In her personal life, she loved drawing, painting, gardening, reading, old furniture and antiques. She took great joy in encouraging and supporting her family.
She is survived by her children: Twyla Joy Weathers (Denver), Monte Christopher Weathers (Tia, Lawrence), and Pepper LaDonna Weathers (Denver), 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and ex-husband: M.G. Thomas (Denver).
Phyllis was preceded in death by her first husband, Adonis "Hoss" Weathers, Sr., her son, Adonis “Doni” Weathers, Jr, and her siblings: Aubrey, Clair Mae, Josephine, Millie Rodgers Gunn, ArBella, Johnny and Ralph.
A Celebration of Life/Service will be held on August 2, 2024, from 11 to 12 p.m. at the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), Earl J. Bruton - Post 534, 110 Veterans Way, Joplin, Mo. 64801. Please join us afterwards for fellowship & snacks.
