Cheryl Fields

Cheryl Lynn Scourten-Fields transitioned to be with the Lord on August 20, 2024 at the age of 67. She was born on June 14, 1957 to the late Douglass Edward Scourten & Charlotte (Hubbard) Scourten in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Cheryl better known in childhood as “Cherrie” is a product of Coffeyville, Kansas school system and graduated from Field Kinley High School. She developed a passion for cheerleading in Junior High that blossomed into her continuance to High School and at Coffeyville Community College. Cherrie graduated from Coffeyville Community College with an Associate Degree; Emporia State University with a Bachelor Degree in Education, Pittsburg State University with a Master Degree in Education and from Dowly University with a Master in Business Administration.








Cherrie believed in hard work and applying her soft skills getting others to excel. She was an educator by trade working with special needs children K-12 and later became a college advisor/cheerleading coach for Coffeyville Community College. Cherrie is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and proud of her work with the NAACP local chapters in Coffeyville, Colorado Springs and Joplin.

Cherrie worked in Corporate America as a training analyst traveling throughout the US, Far East, European and African countries creating IT system operational/test scripts for broker system supporting International Trade. She finished her professional career with the Joplin School District at Franklin Technology Center as a Student Counselor. Retired, Cheryl worked with Germantown and Shelby County Schools districts as substitute teacher to be closer to her grandchildren and become our beloved “Granny-Nanny”!

Cheryl loved Jesus Christ, became a Christian at an early age in Coffeyville at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved to Colorado Springs and became an active member at Peoples’ United Methodist Church leading the youth and singing in the choir. Cherrie enjoyed working in the missionary auxiliary at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Ft Lauderdale FL. Relocating to Joplin MO, Cherrie joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and youth leader. She later moved and became a member of The Mississippi Blvd Christian Church in Memphis, TN.

Cherrie has been the mentor/mother figure to her family, friends, and many people across the country, but her greatest life achievement was her #1 beloved daughter Yolanda and her husband Henry Fields. Cheryl and Henry enthusiastically enjoyed worshipping together, raising Yolanda and being a part of their grandchildren Lawrence and Landon Britt and son-in-love Lawrence Britt III lives.


Cheryl is survived by her husband Henry Fields, daughter Yolanda Fields-Britt (Lawrence Britt III), grandsons Lawrence and Landon Britt (Memphis, TN), sisters Tawyuna Scourten-Palmer of Joplin MO, Pamela Jamison of Selma AL, brothers Harry Jr of Phoenix AZ, Joe Jamison of Selma AL, John Jamison of Joplin, MO; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death are, Douglass Edward Scourten (father), Charlotte (mother) Hubbard-Scourten (mother), Pamela Scourten (sister).

A celebration of Cheryl's Life has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Joplin High School Performing Arts Center. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
