Jerry Smith

Jerry Wayne Smith, age 84, passed away August 2, 2024, in Rowlett, Texas. He was born on March 24, 1940, in Joplin, Missouri, to his loving parents Stephen F. Smith and Dorothy F. (Carnes) Smith.

Jerry grew up in Joplin. After graduating from Joplin High School in 1958, he continued his education at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, earning an associate degree. Jerry proudly served in the United States Air Force in peacetime during the Cuban Missile Crisis.






 

On October 3, 1961, Jerry married the love of his life, Susan Kay Wells, in Joplin, Missouri. Raising their daughter Sherri brought them many years of joy and countless cherished memories.

Jerry spent 25 years with Eastman-Kodak and then another significant period with Plano Power Equipment until retiring in 2010. His career spanned a time of significant change in technology and industry, particularly with Kodak’s evolution from film to digital.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Sherri Hernandez, of Rowlett, Texas; granddaughter, Chelsea Bedard (Nathan), of Tiger, Oregon; two great grandsons, Nathaniel and Jonah; several cousins and nieces; and a host of family members and friends, who will miss him dearly and forever cherish his memory.







Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Kay (Wells) Smith; and parents, Stephen and Dorothy (Carnes) Smith.

A memorial service with Military Funeral Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2024, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Allen, Texas.

Interment will take place at a later date. Jerry will be reunited next to his beloved wife in Ozark Memorial Park.
