David DeWitt


David Randall DeWitt, 88, of Abilene, Texas passed away on July 21, 2024. He died from congestive heart failure. David was born November 14, 1935, in Joplin, Missouri and grew up in Joplin and Rogers, Arkansas. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Elwood DeWitt and Edna Pearl Fisher DeWitt Thomas as well as his wife Saundra Gail Kimbell DeWitt. 








He is survived by his daughter, Daphne DeWitt Adkins, & son in-law Bill Adkins, daughter Sherryl DeWitt Magee & son in-law Steven Magee, and granddaughter Alicia Magee & her husband Robin Pickering. David graduated from Rogers High School in 1953. He began his post high school life in the Air Force. 

From there he went to the University of Arkansas and graduated in 1961 with a Business Degree. David had a varied career throughout his life and worked in sales for various medical supply companies. David always had a passion for his country and served in the Air Force in the 1950s, the Air Force Reserves in the 1960s and the Texas Air National Guard. He began service in the Texas Air National Guard in 1978. 








By the mid-1980s, David was full-time in the Texas Air National Guard. He was at his happiest serving his country. David retired from the Texas Air National Guard in 1995 and from there worked as a teacher's aide in a local middle school. David fully retired in 2010. 

The family wishes to offer special thanks to Lyndale Memory Care, and to the care- givers who so lovingly cared for David as well as to the hospice team from Enhabit Hospice. David and Saundra will both be laid to rest at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas.
