Ethel Helmkamp

Ethel M. Helmkamp, age 94, of Freistatt, Missouri passed away on Friday morning, August 16, 2024 at Bel Oak of Mount Vernon, formerly Mt. Vernon Place Care Center.

Ethel was born on April 4, 1930, in Lockwood, Missouri, the daughter of the late Albert and Ida (Buente) Haubein.

Ethel graduated from Lockwood High School and attended college at Missouri State University in Springfield. Ethel moved to Freistatt to serve as a teacher at Trinity Lutheran School. She met James Helmkamp, and they were married on August 3, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood. Ethel and Jim settled in Freistatt to raise their family. They were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church and active in the Freistatt community. Ethel also worked for the Monett School District for many years.

Ethel is survived by one son, Robert Helmkamp and wife, Barbara of Parker, CO; one daughter, Jane Blevins and husband, James of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; two granddaughters, Amalia Magness and husband, Trevor of Madison, WI and Sophia Helmkamp of Idaho Falls, ID; one great grandson, Edgar Magness.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, and her three brothers, Arden Haubein, Lawrence Haubein, and Wilbur Haubein.

Funeral services for Ethel will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, MO. Reverend Jake Sletten will Officiate. The family will receive friends at Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions have been requested in lieu of flowers to the Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
