Shirley LePage

(From Houser-Millard Funeral Directors)

Shirley Mae LePage, 89, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, August 10, 2024 surrounded by love. She was born November 16, 1934 in Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of the late Albert and Alice Cignetti.

She was married June 9, 1956 in Joplin, Missouri to James “Jim” LePage who preceded her in death on August 13, 2016.

Shirley graduated from Joplin High School in 1952 and went to work for Joplin’s Campbell 66 until 1955. She was known for her exceptional secretarial skills, typing, shorthand and spelling. And in her off-hours, she loved to go out dancing with her sisters. Dancing was involved with bringing Jim and Shirley together, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri after their marriage in Joplin. Jim and Shirley started their family of 6 kids while in St. Louis. They moved to Kansas City for Jim’s career and there they completed their family of 8. Shirley ran the household of six kids and often assisted Jim with secretarial work.

Shirley had a strong Christian faith and believed that you could lay your troubles at the cross and God would provide. She found great comfort and strength in prayer and saying the Rosary. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. She cherished her days of bible study and church choir.

Shirley not only loved to sing at church choir she also sang with Sweet Adelines for several years but she really loved to dance. She was part of the ‘sizzling seniors’ at 5-6-7-8 Dance Studio and performed tap dance in annual recitals and performances beginning in 2007. She performed in her last recital themed “Life’s a Dance” in 2023 at the young age of 88, this same recital was the first for her then 8 year old granddaughter Avery (from 8 to 88). The friendships she made with her dancing team were cherished by her, many of her team came and celebrated her 89th birthday last November. Life truly is a dance and in her final days, those caring for her often got her to assist them in moving by saying ‘come on Shirley or mom let’s dance’ and with a big hug and lift they’d shuffle and step from wheelchair to bed or chair.

As Shirley watched her children grow and begin their own lives, she decided to go back to work. She was employed by the Missouri Veteran’s Commission and Department of Social Services before retiring.

Shirley is survived by sons Thomas LePage (Jefferson City) and Jeffrey (Deana) LePage (North Carolina), daughters Michele LePage (Jefferson City), Angela LePage who survives in the home, and Lucy (Douglas) Bax (Jefferson City), 7 grandchildren Nathan (Katie) LePage (CO), Lisa Carol LePage (WY), Kaitlyn Mae LePage (NC), Jeremy Young (MO), Samantha Wilson (MO), C.J. Shirley was a loving and devoted mother, especially to Angela LePage who was born with special needs. Her devotion to Angie was an inspiration to many and all that were lucky enough to witness the love and grace she demonstrated in caring for her.

Shirley was the last of her siblings to be called home proceeding her in death were her brothers, Robert, Albert and Ronald Cignetti and sisters Mary Welch, Carol Gaskill and Nancy Mayer.
