Harold Harris

Harold Gene Harris, 91, Stark City, Missouri, entered into rest on August 20, 2017 at Granby House, Granby, MO, following a short illness. 

 Harold was born Feb. 4, 1926 in Fairview, Missouri, the son of Amza and Lovenia O’Dell (Bradley) Harris and was a lifelong Fairview and Stark City resident and graduated from Fairview High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army and served as Postmaster in Stark City for 24 years. He was a dairy and cattle farmer and a longtime Cardinals fan. 

 Harold and Cynthia (Poor) were married on Sept. 6, 1944 in Carroll County, Arkansas and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2013. He is survived by two sons, Larry Harris and wife, Maxine and Terry Harris and wife, Brenda, all of Stark City; one brother, Ray Harris of Stark City; five grandchildren, Melissa Brunner and husband, Rob, Clovis Harris and wife, Michelle, Marla Harris, Sam Harris and wife, Shelly, Brent Harris and wife, Cindy; nine great grandchildren; Tyler White, Houston Harris, Lauren Bray, McKenzie Horne, Milton Brunner, Georgia Mae Harris, Adaline Harris, Cecilia Harris and Amza Rae Harris and two great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Clovis Harris and two sisters, Wanda Dickens and Dean Allen. 

Graveside Services and full military honors will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017 at 2 pm at the Muncie Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Tuesday evening at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby from 6 pm to 8 pm. Bill Reeves

William "Bill" Reeves, 74, of Columbus, KS, died Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Medicalodges in Columbus following a long illness.

He was born October 23, 1942 in Columbus to Francis and Maxine (Goodwin) Reeves. He attended and graduated from Columbus High School.

Bill owned and operated Columbus Auto Salvage and Antique Acres for many years. He spent most of his life in Columbus, always loyal to his hometown. He enjoyed traveling to go deep sea fishing in Texas.

Survivors include his children; Bill Reeves and wife Heide of Joplin, MO.,James Reeves and wife Amber of Columbus, and daughter, Tamela Doom, Mountain Grove, MO. , Bill's sisters Susan Beggs and husband Jerry, Claremore OK., and Janet Draeger and husband Rick also of Columbus. He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Maxine Reeves; brother, Tom Reeves and son, Mark Pennington Reeves.

Services will be 11 am, Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the House of Prayer in Riverton, KS. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 6 pm at Bath Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS.

Maxine Crossley

Emma Maxine Crossley, age 91, of Lamar, Missouri and formerly of Joplin, Missouri, died Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Truman Healthcare Center.

Maxine was born August 8, 1926 in Marionville, Illinois to Jean and Opal (VanVeer) Girtman. After she graduated high school and pursued her career in special education, she ultimately earning her Doctorate of Education. She was a speech specialist and educational specialist and finally a Principal of a school for children with disabilities. In 2009, she moved to Joplin from California, to live with her son. She was a member of the Zonta Club in California and was passionate about educating children.

Survivors include a son, Martin Crossley, Lamar, Missouri; a sister Elizabeth, New Mexico; two grandsons, James and wife Stephanie Crossley, Lamar, Missouri, Thomas and wife Jennifer Crossley, Joplin, Missouri; two granddaughters, Leslie, and Julie of Michigan; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Otto Crossley; a son, William Otto Crossley Jr., and a brother, Bill Girtman.

Graveside service will be 10:00 am Friday, August 25, 2017 at Busby Cemetery, Goreville, Illinois.

Ann Cunningham

Annit “Ann” Yvonne Cunningham died Thursday, August 17, 2017 at her home in Mindenmines, Missouri at the age of 66.

Ann was born September 17, 1950 in Tulare, California. She was a homemaker and loved to fish and go to rummage sales. Ann was also an avid lover of animals of all types, but her family was the most important to her.

Ann leaves behind, two sons, Michael and wife Helen Stevens, Mindenmines, and James Smith, Molalla, Oregon; two daughters, Joe Pullen, Mindenmines, Missouri and Annette Morgan, Modesto, California; four sisters, Edith Nunn, Mindenmines, Missouri, Cindy and husband James Goodman, Thayer, Missouri, Linda and husband Paul Martinez, Visalia, California, and Jody and husband Richard, Waterford, California; four grandchildren, Anthony, Angela, Michael, and David; and three great grandsons, William, Brighyr, and Xander; three great granddaughters, Marlei, Emma, and Piper and a lifelong friend, Leroy Ensminger.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Robert Brumback; a son, William Dale Stevens and a daughter, Imogene Connelly.

Randall Cox

Randall Thomas Cox, Sr., age 57, of Joplin, Missouri, entered into eternal rest at his home on Thursday, August 17, 2017.

Randall was born on September 4, 1959 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, to Donald Eugene and Mary Katherine (Hurn) Cox. During Randall’s childhood, the family resided in several states. When the Coxes lived in Texas, they often visited Mary Kay’s mother, Leola Hurn. The boys were close to their grandmother and went on many fishing trips. In the early 1970s, the Coxes moved to Crystal Lake, Illinois, where the family soon met the Houzengas and a lasting friendship was formed.

He graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School in 1977. After graduation, he worked at Union Special, a company which made industrial sewing machines. While working there, he became friends with his foreman, Dale Moehling. Randall also enjoyed weightlifting competitions with SAAS—Strong Athletes Against Steroids. He won numerous trophies during these competitions. In 1994, he moved to Missouri to be closer to his parents during their retirement in Oklahoma.

Randall was last employed at McDonald’s as well as Pizza Hut, where he was a pizza delivery driver. He greatly enjoyed interacting with his customers. While at Pizza Hut, he was voted most valuable player several times. Randall was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin.

Randall married Diane Stephens on July 18, 1998, in Joplin, Missouri, and together they had two children, Rachel Constance and Randall Thomas, Jr. He was proud of his children and the fact that he and Diane were married for 19 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Katherine Cox; his maternal and paternal grandparents; his father-in-law, Allan Stephens; and his sister-in-law, Laura Stephens.

Survivors include his wife, Diane, of the home; his two children, Rachel Cox and Randall Cox, Jr., both of Joplin; his father, Donald Cox, and step-mother, Jeanne, of Grove Oklahoma; a brother, Don Cox, Jr., of the State of Georgia; his mother-in-law, Constance Stephens, of Joplin; as well as extended family and friends.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. A committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin. Online condolences may be sent through our website www.thornhilldillon.com. Jean Runnels

Norma Jean Runnels, 84, Granby, passed away August 22, 2017 at Granby House. Jean was born June 18, 1933 in Stigler, Oklahoma, daughter of Walter and Ruby (Rogers) Edwards.

She previously worked as a customer service associate at Wal-Mart. Jean married Harold Bruce Runnels; Harold preceded her in death. Jean is survived by her son, Ted McKinney and his wife, Marcia, of Granby, Missouri. Additional survivors include one sister, Betty Gerosin, Redding, California; two grandchildren, Salena Albert, Chicago, Illinois, and Brandon Lindberg, Neosho, Missouri; and three great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by six siblings.

The family will receive visitors at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby, Missouri on Monday, August 28, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Macedona Cemetery in Stella, Missouri. The Reverend Terry Swagerty will officiate.

Vernon Wammack

Vernon Loyd Wammack, age 71 of Riverton, passed away at 7:37 AM on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO.

Vernon was born in Fawt, TX on June 11, 1946 to the union of Harlen Caper Wammack and Edna Maureen (White) Wammack. He lived in Childress, TX before moving to the four-state area in 1954.

Vernon worked as a Molder for Crouch’s Manufacturing Co. in Duneweg, MO for 33 years until the plant closed down. Most recently, he worked for the Cherokee County Highway Department in Columbus, KS for 13 years. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses. Vernon loved anything to do with cars, especially drag racing and tinkering with antique cars. He was very funny, always cutting up, and was just a joy to be around. He loved his friends and family very much.

Vernon was married to Karen Ann (Hatfield) in Miami, OK on October 22, 1982. She survives.

Additional survivors include one brother, Marvin Wammack of Galena; two sisters, Ester Bowers of Neosho, MO, and Sue Lease (husband, Donnie) of Galena; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlen and Edna Wammack; five brothers, Alvin Wammack, Glen Wammack, Howard Wammack, Virgil Wammack, and Raymond Wammack; one sister, Katherine Breneman; and two infant siblings.

Mr. Wammack was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. The family will hold a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 26th at the Baxter Springs Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, located at 2525 E. 12th Street, Baxter Springs, KS 66713.
