Vernon Loyd Wammack, age 71 of Riverton, passed away at 7:37 AM on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO.
Vernon was born in Fawt, TX on June 11, 1946 to the union of Harlen Caper Wammack and Edna Maureen (White) Wammack. He lived in Childress, TX before moving to the four-state area in 1954.
Vernon worked as a Molder for Crouch’s Manufacturing Co. in Duneweg, MO for 33 years until the plant closed down. Most recently, he worked for the Cherokee County Highway Department in Columbus, KS for 13 years. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses. Vernon loved anything to do with cars, especially drag racing and tinkering with antique cars. He was very funny, always cutting up, and was just a joy to be around. He loved his friends and family very much.
Vernon was married to Karen Ann (Hatfield) in Miami, OK on October 22, 1982. She survives.
Additional survivors include one brother, Marvin Wammack of Galena; two sisters, Ester Bowers of Neosho, MO, and Sue Lease (husband, Donnie) of Galena; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlen and Edna Wammack; five brothers, Alvin Wammack, Glen Wammack, Howard Wammack, Virgil Wammack, and Raymond Wammack; one sister, Katherine Breneman; and two infant siblings.
Mr. Wammack was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. The family will hold a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 26th at the Baxter Springs Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, located at 2525 E. 12th Street, Baxter Springs, KS 66713.
