Barton Cooper

Mr. George Barton Cooper, 81, of Southwest City, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, August 28, 2017, in the comfort of his home after months of declining health.

Barton entered this life on March 15, 1936, in Benton County Arkansas, born to the union of Benjamin Barton and Letha Belle (Barnes) Cooper. He was a lifelong area resident and a 1954 graduate of Southwest City High School. On July 6, 1956, he was united in marriage to Betty Katherine Harp and together they shared sixty years before her passing on April 3, 2017. Barton was a truck driver throughout his life. He retired in 1998 from Praxair in Neosho after thirty-three years of employment. He along with his brother Joe founded Greenwood Cattle Company in 1977, raising limousine cattle for several years. He enjoyed traveling, and attending rodeos, especially the NFR in Las Vegas. Barton was a member of the First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Betty; and two brothers, James Ross Cooper and Joe Cooper.

Barton is survived by two siblings, Paul Cooper and wife, Melody, of Miami, Oklahoma and Karen Scott of Southwest City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Cooper are 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Missouri, with Bro. Rob Grimm officiating. Burial will follow in the Southwest City Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Jeff Cooper, Tristan Cooper, Brent Cooper, Jerry Cooper, Garrett Cooper and Adam Cooper. Lloyd Barnes and Keith Lindquist will be serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Southwest City Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Memorials are being directed to either the First Baptist Church or the Southwest City Cemetery Care Fund c/o the funeral home.
