Sharon Gayle Jones Hermann Royer passed into the arms of her heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at her home in Joplin, Missouri.
She was born on August 8, 1936, in Springfield, Missouri, to Johnny and Dorothy Jones. The second of four children, Sharon is remembered as the matriarch of her family.
She married Jerry Hermann in 1953 and had four children. She married H.L. “Lee” Royer in 1980, and became a friend and parent to his two children, as well.
Sharon worked as a Therapeutic Foster Parent, opening her home to over 163 foster children throughout her 35 year career. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and neighbor. She taught the gospel of love; not only through her words, but through her actions.
Sharon was a dedicated member of the Sheep Shed congregation in Neosho, Missouri. She taught vacation bible school, attended bible study classes, and readily served when any need arose. When she saw the plight of the homeless in the Joplin community, she and her sister began serving food out of the back of their vehicles; providing nourishment unconditionally and with great love.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee; her brother, Harold Jones; and her son, Todd Hermann.
Those left to cherish her memories include her son, Jeffery Hermann, of Racine, Missouri; daughter, Gretchen Hermann-Crown, and husband, Larry Keefe, of St Croix, US Virgin Islands; daughter-in-law, Tina Hermann, of Joplin, Missouri; daughter, Katrina Hermann, of Joplin; step-daughter, Sherri Watson, and husband, Jeff, of Denver, Colorado; step-son, Troy Royer, and wife, Debbie, of Golden, Missouri; her adopted children; Andrea Caswell, Carrie Cowherd, Meranda Danner, Sarah Green, Charity Hall, Tino Meza, Melinda Morris, Leaann Mungia, Cuc & Thanh Pham, Jacquelene Puente, Christy Skipper-Warren, Kenny Sullivan, Melissa Reid, Sara Wilson, and Bobbie Wolgamott; sister, Zenith Emory, of Joplin; sister, Kyla Jones, of Tacoma, Washington; 52 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services for Sharon are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at the Sheep Shed Church, 8471 Gateway Drive, Neosho, with Pastors Jock Evans, Jeremy Evans, and Howard Nunnelly officiating. Burial will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Zachary Gripp, Shane Crown, Dilynn Moss, Tino Meza, Josh Hermann and Kenneth Sullivan. Because of her love and commitment to children, the family asks that contributions be made in her honor to the Children’s Haven of Southwest Missouri, located at 711 S. Pitcher, Joplin, Missouri 64801. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
