Lynda Jean Sumners, age 73, Joplin, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin.
She was born February 21, 1944 in Joplin, to the late John Jackson and Mary Eva Orr Jackson.
Lynda married Monty Sumners on June 5,1958, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he survives of the home.
She served many years as one of the first female police officers for the City of Joplin, after retirement she worked as an security officer for St. John's Hospital, Joplin.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Darryl Sumners; one brother, Orr Collins and a sister, Fern Crandall.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Lonnie Sumners, wife, Karen, Webb City; a daughter, Diana Sumners, wife, Tami Hood, Carthage; two grandsons, Travis Sumners, wife, Patricia, Joplin and John Sumners, wife, Annie, Joplin; one granddaughter, Shalimar Sumners, Neosho and three great grandchildren, Cameron, Jay and Eevee Sumners.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, in the Parker Mortuary Chapel, with Tim Herrington, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
