Wayne Barlett

George Wayne Barlett, Sr., age 76, Oronogo, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at National Health Care of Joplin.

Wayne was born March 30, 1941 in Webb City, Missouri, son of the late George Albert Barlett and Georgia Mae Gilliam Barlett. He grew up in the Webb City area, oldest of 16 children, he began working at the Ted Hooker Service Station in Joplin and also drove a wrecker for them. He worked at Fleming Foods, and then went to work for Consolidated Freightway as a dispatcher, and then Campbell 66, Advance United, and finally began his own business as Land Air Express which he owned and operated until his retirement.

Wayne was a member of the local Masons, and the Scottish Rite. He was a past president for the AYRA (All Youth Rodeo Association), where he enjoyed working with the youth. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. Wayne was a member of New Hope Assembly of God.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by brothers, Don, Ron "Butch", Mickey, Jim, and Ed; sisters, Mary Barlett, Debbie Barlett, and Janice Rowe.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Doris VanAmber Barlett; son, George Wayne Barlett, Jr,; daughters, Tina Heydencych and husband Ryan of Pittsburg, Kansas, Karla Barlett and David McKinney of Carl Junction; grandchildren, Kyle Carr, Kearstin Brown, Tyler Hall, Cory Brown, Alyssa Heydenrych, and Elliot Bynum; great-grandchildren, Cohen Williams and Nova Brown; brothers, Gary Barlett, Tony Barlett, Steve Barlett, Rocky Barlett; sisters, Sherry Barlett, Beth Maynard, and Pat Thurlo; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in New Hope Assembly of God, 6th and Moffet, with Pastor Bob Winnett and Pastor Don Staggs officiating.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Joplin Humane Society.
