Donald Scott McKay, 77, of Sarcoxie, Missouri departed this life on Sunday, August 20, 2017 in the comfort of his home.
Scott entered this life on March 15, 1940 in Pendleton, Oregon to the union of the late Donald and Winifred (Halsey) McKay. Scott was baptized on May 4, 1958 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. Scott was a graduate of Pendleton High School on May 28, 1958. After graduation he attended Boise State College and later graduated from Eastern Oregon College where he earned his bachelor’s degree on June 6, 1964. On October 4, 1994 he received his certification in refrigerant transition and recovery from Ferris State University in Michigan. He later moved to Sarcoxie, Missouri in which he called home. He was a very talented man in many areas. He was extremely involved in the community of Sarcoxie and the public schools. At the time of his passing he was a board member of the Sarcoxie Chamber of Commerce as well as mayor pro tem for the City of Sarcoxie. Scott was very proud on his Native American heritage. He enjoyed Dutch oven cooking; as well as spending time with his friends. Scott touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by his friends which he considered family.
He is survived by his faithful companion, Callie, a mini Australian shepherd, who was the reason he woke up every morning.
A celebration of life for Scott will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 on the City Square in Sarcoxie, Missouri, with Pastor Scott Pogue officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the City of Sarcoxie for the beautification of the park on the Square and may be left at the funeral home. Friends of Scott ask that casual attire be worn as well as bring your lawn chairs. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Missouri.
