John Roland

Mr. John Amos Roland, 86, of Joplin, passed Friday, October 17, 2014, after his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends. John was a great father, grandfather, husband, and friend. He retired from the Denver Water Company after forty-two years of service. He enjoyed being outdoors as much as possible, whether it be in the garden, on the mower, tending to the animals, or planting flowers. His kindness and sense of humor will be remembered and missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mary Roland; three brothers, Virgil, Lester and Leonard “Bud” Roland; and one sister, Lorene Butler Crowder.

John is survived by the love of his life, Violet June Roland, whom he married on June 14, 2005. Additional survivors include daughters, Sherron Devonshire of Colorado Springs, Donna Berry of Denver, and Kathy Seward and husband, Bill, of Joplin; a son, Mark Jeffries and wife, Kathy, of Carl Junction; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; sisters, Annabelle Blood, Josephine Arehart and husband, Earl, Mary Etta Coolbaugh Nolan, Catherine Norton and Betty Keene and husband, Clyde; several nephews, nieces and dear friends.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri, from 6-7:00 p.m.
