Willie Mae Poole Cortez, age 82 of Joplin, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at her home surrounded by family.
Willie Mae was born October 12, 1932 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Poole in Shreveport, Louisiana. Not too long after she moved with her family to Joplin where she graduated from Lincoln High School. She was a homemaker, traveling the world with her husband during his many years in the military.
Over 63 years ago she married her high school sweetheart, Lewis W. Cortez and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2013. They are now resting together again. Also preceding her in death is a daughter, Rosemary Felton and several siblings.
Survivors include one granddaughter, Tanishia Felton and a great-granddaughter, Aliyah McKinzie, both of Joplin; several sister and brother in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
Services are planned for Thursday, October 23 at 10:00 A.M. at Parker Mortuary. Family would like to receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:00 P.M. at the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
