Mike Longan

Mr. James Michael “Mike” Longan, 71, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at his residence, after a brief illness.

Mike entered this life on August 21, 1943, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the only child born to the late James I. and ReVay (Ruddell) Longan. He was raised in Joplin, Missouri and was 1961 graduate of Joplin High School. He furthered his education by obtaining his associate’s degree from Joplin Junior College. On August 12, 1967, he was united in marriage to Deborah N. Sprowls and to this union a daughter was born. He owned and operated the 7-11 convenience store in Commerce, Oklahoma, for over twenty years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Mike was of the Methodist faith and was a Veteran of the United States Army Reserves.

He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Deborah Longan of the home; a daughter, Barbara Longan-Thompson and husband, Tim, of Joplin, Missouri; and two granddaughters, Emily and Maggie Thompson.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Longan are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri, with Pastors Mildred Banks and Gerald Henning officiating.
