Billy Dean Carlill, age 86, Joplin, passed away at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, February 10, 2019 at National Healthcare Center after an illness.
Billy was born May 27, 1932 in Neck City, Missouri to the late Richard Carlill and Eunice Wagner Carlill. Billy had lived in Joplin and Denver, Colorado for most of his life.
As a teenager, Billy worked on ranches and in the mining business in Colorado. He then worked at the Jolly Rancher Candy Factory and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal for several years. He moved back to Joplin and worked for the Joplin R-VIII School District for almost twenty years, retiring from the environmental service department at Joplin High School.
Billy was an auto body man by trade and worked on cars whenever he had a chance. He loved to read old Western novels and had a love for horses. Billy loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
He married Evelyn Gilstrap in January of 1954. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2009.
Billy was also preceded in death by a grandson, Adam.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Carlill and wife, Pauline, Arvada, Colorado, Rodney Carlill and wife, Sherry, Joplin; a daughter, Robin Hansen, Arvada, Colorado; step siblings, Gary, Ronnie, Timmy, Ricky, Terry; grandchildren, Dominic, Eric, Garrett, Fred, Tim; great grandchildren, Landon, Lacey, Lawson, Samantha, Seth, Lucy, Hayes, Brandy, Felicia, Gabrielle, Ethan, Erik, Kory, Xavier, Ruby; and several great great grandchildren.
Services are planned for Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, in care of Parker Mortuary.
