Jimmy Manar

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Jimmy Dale Manar, age 79, of Neosho, Missouri, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 14, 2019.

Jimmy was born February 1, 1940, in Seymour, Missouri, to the late George and Lila (Vanmeter) Manar. He retired in 1980 as Senior Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force after 22 years of service to our country. Jimmy received his Bachelor’s degree from Missouri Southern State University in 1984 and worked as an Assistant Data Processing Manager and later became the Data Processing Manager for EaglePicher Technologies, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Joplin Full Gospel Church.

On September 8, 1961, Jimmy married Phyliss Gideon and to that union one child was born, Judith Dawn Manar. Jimmy was later introduced to Verna by a close friend and was smitten, thus a whirlwind romance evolved. They were married on November 7, 1981, at Tri-City Community Church in Pineville, Missouri. Together they raised five children, Eddie Whittington, Kevin Whittington, Judith Manar Lanningham (Larry), Kim Musgrave (Cecil) and Kristie Putnam. He was a proud grandpa to Hailee, Steven, Amber, Audrie, Chancellor, Austin, Nathaniel, Mariah, Kaitlin, Hannah and Garrett. There was nothing that could compare to the love that he felt when his two great-grandchildren, Ryker and Gracelynn, were born.

Jimmy is also survived by his four sisters, Bessie West (Jim), Connie Hoagland (Lester), Sandra Woods and Betty Navarro (Ray); two brothers, George Manar (Laura) and Bert Manar (Julie); as well as a host of nieces and nephews he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lila Manar; his first wife, Phyliss (Gideon) Manar; two sisters, Barbara and Anna; and three brothers, David, Lynden and Jerry.

Jimmy was most admired for his infectious smile, his selfless love and his great big caring heart for his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, his wife’s siblings, parents, parents-in-law, as well as for anyone whom he could help. Jimmy was a very giving and loving person. His presence among us will be truly missed.

Memorial services for Mr. Manar are 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019, at the Joplin Full Gospel Church with Pastors Joyce Myers and Josh Patrick officiating. Burial will full military honors will follow at King Cemetery in Neosho. Jimmy’s sons and grandsons are honoring his life by serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are payable to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
