James Douglas Zerbe, age 68, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Joplin.
Doug was born April 26, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas, son of the late James O. Zerbe, and Joan M. Ray of Houston, Missouri. James grew up in Butler, Missouri, and graduated from Butler High School. He worked for Ford Motor Company before beginning his career as a General Contractor in construction. He worked as a carpenter in remodeling and home construction, and in building maintenance. He worked in the Kansas City area, and then in Kenai, Alaska, and settled in Lexington, Kentucky before moving to the Joplin area in 2010.
In addition to his father, Doug was preceded in death by a brother, Marc Odell Zerbe, a sister, Dana Zerbe, step-brother, Scott Edward McDonald, and step-father, Joe Denzil McDonald.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Zerbe of Joplin; two sons, Heith Zerbe of Overland Park, Kansas, and Dustin Zerbe and wife Lindsay of Adrian, Missouri; three grandchildren; his mother, Joan McDonald of Houston, Missouri; brothers, Gary Zerbe and wife Kathryn of Houston, Bradley Zerbe and wife Kenda of Leawood, Kansas, Andy McDonald of Torrance, California; sister, Nancy Schrag and husband Andy of Homer, Alaska; several nieces and nephews.
No formal services are planned at this time.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
