Daryl Bauer

Daryl E. Bauer, age 77, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday February 13, 2019, at Mercy Hospital, following a brief illness.

Daryl was born on May 17, 1941 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of the late David and Adeline (Nobbman) Bauer. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BA in Business Management. He moved to Joplin in the early 1970’s, where he worked as a manager for Montgomery Ward. He retired from Montgomery Ward after thirty-eight years of service. He then became a store manager for Big Lot’s in Webb City, Mo. and Pittsburg, Ks. After retiring from Big Lot’s he worked part-time for O’Reilly Automotive.

Work was Daryl’s hobby. He made many friends during his years of working in retail. He was fun to work for and with. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker Fan. He enjoyed his yard and home gardening. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Daryl married Deborah Griffith on May 16, 1998 in Eureka Springs, Ar., and she survives. Also surviving is one son, Jace Bauer, of the home; three step-daughters, Stacy McAdoo and husband Paul, Springfield, Mo., Jessica Billings, Tulsa, Ok, and Sarah Billings, and husband Kelly Kile, Tahlequah, Ok.; seven grandchildren, one who raised liked his own son, Eric Horner, Webb City, Mo.; and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Merle Bauer, Raleigh, S.C.; four sisters-in-laws, Cheryl Barnes and husband Jack, Joplin, Pam Cooksey, Joplin, Kim Purcell and husband R.L., Springfield, and Marla Haik, Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.







Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Following the service, he will be taken for cremation.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Jace Bauer Scholarship Fund in care of the mortuary.
