Delbert L Allen, age 82, passed away at 12:40 AM, Monday, February 18, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.
Mr. Allen was born August 10, 1936 in Purdy, MO. His parents were Cleo and Nola Jean (Shockley) Allen. He returned to the area in 1969, after living in Ontario and Fontan, California.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army. Delbert was employed at Doane’s Feed Products for 25 years, retiring in 1994.
He and his wife traveled across the United States making several trips on their motorcycle. They were members of the Re-tread Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed Bluegrass music and played the mandolin, performing in several venues around the area.
Delbert was married to Pearl M Brown on December 12, 1955 in Gainesville, TX. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Gary Allen (wife, Kathy), Mindenmines, MO, and Dale Allen, Joplin, MO; three daughters, Debra Taylor, Pittsburg, KS, Belva Fisher (husband, Mike), Joplin, and Sharon Clark (husband, Jamie), Corpus Cristi, TX; one sister, Nole Jean “Jeanie” Criddle, Bryan, TX; 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
He was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation. No services are planned.
