James A. Marvin, age 72, Joplin, went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, February 15, 2019 after a sudden illness.
James was born October 16, 1946 in Joplin, son of the late Fred Marvin and Beatrice Carr Marvin. He was a lifelong resident of Joplin, having attended Joplin Schools. He worked as a diesel mechanic for over 30 years, retiring as a Foreman with Fabric Trucking. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed shooting pool with his friends. He was known for his work ethic, and compassion and love for his family. He will be greatly missed by many.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister, Loyce Nelson, and a son, Chris Coats.
Survivors include his wife nearly 40 years, Ramona Biggers Marvin; daughters, Kelley Wheeler and husband Gary, Shanon Ritter; sons, Eric Biggers and wife Deedra, and Donald Coats and wife Tammie all of Joplin; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Lyle Marvin and wife Pat of Riverton, Kansas, and Fred Marvin and wife Buaklee of Austin, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jeff D. Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
