Billie Joe Burton, of Lockwood, MO, departed this life on Thursday, February 7, 2019, in the Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehabilitation Facility at the age of 79.
He was born on June 6, 1939 in Miller, MO to Jesse and Florence (Copeland) Burton. Billie graduated from Greenfield High School in 1957. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Billie was united in marriage to Jolene Swearingen on July 8, 1971 in Verona, MO. He worked throughout his life as a mechanic and a truck driver. Billie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockwood and the Lockwood American Legion Post #372.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Jesse and Florence Burton; two brothers, Charles Burton and Eugene Burton; and one sister, Katherine McDaniel.
Survivors include his wife, Jolene Burton; five children, Kevin Burton and wife June of Golden City, MO, Brenda Gaines of Sheldon, MO, Robert Burton of Lockwood, MO, Thomas Burton and wife Tammy of Trenton, NC, and Samantha Harr and husband Bryan of Carthage, MO; five brothers, Kenneth Burton and wife Jan, Jesse Burton Jr. and wife Becky, Gary Burton and wife Shirley, James Burton, and David Burton; three sisters, Sue Robinson and husband Carl, Dorothy Jeffreys and husband Carl, and Debbie Jones and husband Alvin; fifteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, in Greenfield Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Collins Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help toward funeral expenses.
