Edie Arlene (Miller, Swingle) Neil, 68, passed away on March 31, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. 

Edie was born at McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage, Missouri on January 29, 1955, to Donald W. and Retha B. Miller.

Edie is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Eugenia Swingle (Uriah), Joplin, Missouri; grandsons, Liam and Wyett, Joplin, Missouri; sisters, Joyce Bruining (Skip) Wayne, New Jersey, Marilyn Paugh (Willis), Carl Junction, Missouri, Billie Hodson (Dave), Carl Junction, Missouri, and Donna Smith, Bradley South Carolina; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and precious, good friends.

Preceding Edie in death were her parents, Donald W., and Retha B. Miller; grandparents, Joe, and Stella (George) Moore, Zeta (Chapman) and Al Briscoe, and John Miller.

Edie served as Jasper County Recorder of Deeds for 16 years, serving in that office before being elected to that official post. She was also a member of Soroptimists and Lincoln Ladies and other community organizations. She loved serving her county and state.

Being diagnosed with MS halted her career and challenged her to a new life of struggling with declining health. Edie’s belief in Christ and the Lord kept her strong in her daily life knowing this life on earth is just for a brief moment. Her prayers were answered as she took her last breath on March 31st, being released from the pain and burdens of this life and gaining her Heavenly wings.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Faith Life Worship Center, 736 E. Fairview Carthage, Missouri. A Celebration of life will follow at 1:00 pm.
