Spencer Robert “Nico” Nicodemus, 18, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life suddenly on Thursday morning, March 2, 2017, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri.
Spencer began his earthly journey on July 22, 1998, in Joplin, Missouri, one of two children born to the union of Christopher Sean and Kathryn (Campbell) Nicodemus. He was a lifelong resident of Joplin and was currently in his Senior year at Joplin High School. One of Spencer’s greatest accomplishments was achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Spencer was involved in numerous activities including Boy Scouts, Order of the Arrow, Deacon at South Joplin Christian Church, Letterman of Track & Field, violinist with the Joplin High School Orchestra and was a former basketball and football player. He was owner and operator of Nico’s Lawn Service and was an avid bass fisherman. After graduation he planned to attend Crowder College and later transferring to Missouri State for business marketing.
Spencer took seriously his Christian faith and shared it openly. His unconditional love and compassion for all of God’s creations was evident throughout his life. Spencer leaves a legacy of acts of kindness through everything from his smile to the completion of his Eagle Scout project. Building relationships and community were accomplished by sharing his passion for fishing, hunting, music, and serving Christ.
His paternal grandfather, Robert Michael Nicodemus, preceded him in death.
Spencer is survived by his parents, Sean and Kathy Nicodemus of the home; his big sister and best friend, Samantha Nicodemus who is currently attending the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville; paternal grandparents, Mary and Rod Havens of Leesburg, Florida; maternal grandparents, Linda Hughes Campbell of Monticello, Arkansas and Clay Campbell and wife, Gretchen, of Sedalia, Missouri; maternal great grandmother, Fay Martin of Springfield, Missouri; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends who loved him deeply.
Memorial services are 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2017, at the Joplin High School Performing Arts Center with Rev. Dr. Colleen Carroll and Jeremy Ritchie officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to the Ozark Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Crosslines, or South Joplin Christian Church.
