Jennifer Nelson

Jennifer Leann (Hancock) Nelson, 35 of Joplin, Missouri departed this life on Thursday, March 2, 2017 and entered into the arms of Jesus. She bravely battled cancer for ten years without ever complaining or feeling sorry for herself.

Jennifer was born on July 2, 1981, in Joplin, Missouri. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1999 and worked at Joplin Fire Protection for 13 years. She loved her job and the people she worked with.

Jennifer was spontaneous and creative. She brightened her home with unique furniture and crafts made in her colorful personal style. She loved dressing up and going out with the girls for a night of dancing or seeing her favorite local bands. She loved fast cars, bargain shopping, and eating out. Jennifer was always up for an adventure and making new friends.

She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, and friend with a heart of gold. She loved being with family and friends. Her son, Keaghan Wade Hancock, 14, was her world. She was a baptized believer in Jesus Christ.

Jennifer is survived by her son, Keaghan Hancock, and his father Travis Hancock of Joplin; mother, Debra Gott of Joplin; father, Vallen Nelson and wife Kathy of Joplin; grandparents, Carl and Mildred Nelson of Joplin; four brothers, Chris Nelson and wife Jennifer of Joplin, Cody Nelson of Joplin, Matt Judah and wife Kirsten of Chesapeake, Virginia, Nathan Judah and wife Aida of Morrisville, Missouri; two sisters, Jaymey Boston and husband James of Decatur, Arkansas, and Lindsay Udell of Webb City, Missouri; aunt and uncle, Alan and Christina Beaver of Anderson, Missouri; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Jennifer are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Pastor Melvin Stapp officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Freeman Cornell-Beshore Cancer Institute in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
