Earl Heggen

Earl Leonard Heggen, Jr., age 88, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 18, 2018.

Mr. Heggen, son of Earl and Anne (Pegan) Heggen, was born on December 10, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois. He was a 1949 graduate of Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, Illinois. On August 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Barrier at the Martin Luther Church in Chicago. Earl joined the United States Air Force in 1951 where he was an airplane mechanic for four years. He subsequently worked as a mechanic for Capital Air Lines in Chicago before starting his own landscaping business in 1961. He operated that business until 1999 when he retired and he and Beverly moved to Shell Knob to make their home.

Earl enjoyed having deep discussions with everyone he could. He was always busy doing something from taking care of the yard, tinkering on his various projects, spending time with his dog or square dancing with his wife. Earl loved spending time with his family and friends and most recently enjoyed Wii bowling with his friends at the local senior center.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Beverly Heggen, of Shell Knob; their three children, John Heggen and his wife Cristina, of Wentworth, Joanne Carrera, of Springfield, and Cathy Esler and her husband Mark, of Holden; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one nephew; and two nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Onita and his grandson Matthew Esler.

Memorial services with full military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Haven of the Ozarks and entrusted to the White Funeral Home and Crematory, P.O. Box 890, Cassville, MO 65625.

Service arrangements and cremation are under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Missouri.
