Josh Myers

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Joshua Dale Myers, 40, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly at his sister’s home on Friday, November 23, 2018.

Josh was born in Neosho, Missouri, on July 20, 1978, to Fred and Anola Myers. He grew up in the Southwest Missouri area and attended East Newton High School. He had a heart of gold and would help anyone in any way he could. His laugh was contagious and he always lit up the room with his quick wit and sarcasm.

Josh was a lifelong, talented musician and loved sharing that talent with the world by writing and playing music. He also took much pride in sharing his knowledge of the guitar with his young niece, Olivia. He had fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a career trucker and was beyond proud of that role. He often talked of all the amazingly beautiful places he had seen over the years of being an over-the-road truck driver. Josh had a few titles over the years, but he was most proud of being a brother and an uncle. He was an amazing big brother and best friend to his sister, Sarah. He never missed a moment to brag on his family and share his love for them. He will forever be loved and missed dearly by everyone who was blessed enough to know this great man. It's never goodbye but rather 'talk to you soon'.

Josh was preceded in death by his grandparents, Butch Myers and June Houge, Walter Bateman, Sr., and Eugene and Evelyn Root; his parents, Fred and Anola Myers; uncles, Eugene Root, Walter Bateman and Jack Root; and a step-brother, Michael Carsten.

He is survived by his sister, Sarah Myers, and her children, Olivia and Joshua, all of Cherokee, Kansas; uncle, Walter D. Myers, of Anderson, Missouri, uncle and aunt, Jerry and Cheri Myers, of Granby, Missouri, and uncle, Larry Root, and family of Waldo, Florida; stepsister, Katie Pikey, of Perryville, Missouri; cousins, Matthew Myers and family of Cherokee, Kansas, Courtney Gooding and Cali Hall of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Benjamin Myers of Granby, Missouri; best friend and brother by choice, Dave Simpson; as well as many distant cousins, loved ones and friends.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2018, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
