Billy Hicks

Billy Leon Hicks, 79, of Joplin, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020, at his home peacefully during his sleep with his doggie, Princess, by his side.

Bill was born September 26, 1941, in Joplin, Missouri, to the union of the late Floyd O. Hicks and Lelah (Jackson) Hicks. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army and lived in the Joplin area for the majority of his lifetime.

During Bill’s career in law enforcement he worked for the Joplin Police Department and the Jasper County Sheriffs Office. He was awarded the Civilian Service Certificate in 2003, was president of the Joplin Police Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Missouri Police Officers Association, and, he even delivered a baby in the backseat of a vehicle at 23rd & Rangeline while on duty!








Bill enjoyed golfing, frequent trips to Las Vegas and ole western movies. He loved taking the grandkids to Disney World and the memories created with them there. He loved all of his family with all his heart and was generous with what he was blessed with. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

On July 16, 1979, Bill was united in marriage to Paulette (O’Dell/Sluder) Hicks and together they shared 41 years with family and friends. She survives at the home.

In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack Hicks, Dorothy Crowder, Betty Hicks and Ann Huff.

Bill is also survived by his children, Deanna Patterson and husband, Trent, Rick Hicks and wife, Michelle, Danny Sluder and wife, Keri; grandchildren, Joshua McGinnis, Jacob McGinnis, Spencer McGinnis, Cana Sluder, Shiloh Sluder, Alexandria Sluder, Berea Sluder, Bethany Sluder; great grandchildren, Natalie, Wyatt, Waylon, Keegan, Kenadie, Hunter, Levi, Mila, Carter; brother, Floyd O. Hicks, Jr., as well as a host of extended family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
