Carol Ann House, age 73, of Lockwood, Missouri, passed away at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, after a long bout of illness. She was born May 17, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Harry Harold and Betty Joan (Lakatos) Steffen.

Carol will be remembered for her loving and caring nature, but also as a force to be reckoned with when it came to anyone messing with her family. She was foe to none and friend to many as she always made people around her feel welcome and loved.

Carol and her family moved to Missouri at the end of 1986 and she spent the next 34 years living at her home in Lockwood, Missouri. She spent several years working as a cook at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood and then as a cook at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt Vernon, Missouri.

She was a jack of all trades as she was once a Catering Truck Driver, a Semi Truck Driver, a Taxidermist, Department Store Manager, Auction House Manager, School Bus Driver, among other various occupations.

She was a strong woman with a heart of gold and the fighting spirit of a warrior. Carol had a strong faith in God who guided her throughout her life. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

On August 28, 1995, she married John Meridith House Jr., in Lockwood. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2020.

Carol was a hardworking woman who raised five children while working sometimes two and three jobs at a time but would help anyone who needed it. She had five biological children, Sherry Hull and husband, David, of Lockwood, Charles Delaney and wife, Brenda, of Stockton, Missouri, Jamie Delaney-Stevens and husband, Darrell, of Walnut, Iowa, and Renae Griffin and husband, Pat, of Omaha, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She had several youth and adults throughout the years who referred to her as “Mom” because of her loving personality and willingness to take anyone in who needed a family.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Betty, her husband, John, one daughter, Betty Parham and three brothers, Bobby, John and Ronnie Steffen.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Online condolences may be shared at www.FossettMosherFuneralHome.com.
