Wayne Johnson

Wayne Ulmon Johnson, age 90 of Galena, passed away at 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Galena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Wayne was born in Joplin, MO on May 6, 1930 to the union of Charles Oliver Johnson and Florence Eva (Degginger) Johnson. He graduated from Carl Junction High School with the class of 1948.

He was a lifetime resident of the four-state area, working for many years as a mechanic at Durham Implement of Carl Junction, and also as a machinist at Vickers in Joplin, retiring in 1973. 

He was a deacon at Carl Junction First Baptist Church where he attended for several decades, and was most recently a member at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City, MO. He was a self-employed farmer, raising both crops and cattle, and his skills as a craftsman showed in the furniture that he built in his free time.








Wayne was united in marriage with Dorothy Mae (Reis) Johnson on February 6, 1949 in Carl Junction, MO. She preceded him in death less than a month prior, on November 25, 2020.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence Johnson; one brother, C. O. Johnson, Jr.; four sisters, Eileen Wade, Mildred Hetherington, Louise Crampton, and Dorothy Durham; and one infant son, Troy Charles Johnson.

Survivors include one son, Gary Wayne Johnson (wife, Deonne) of Hutchinson, KS; two daughters, Kathy Boccia (husband, John) of Potwin, KS, and Lana Royster (husband, Jeff) of Galena, KS; as well as 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

A funeral service will be held at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. His grandson, Nathan Boccia, and his pastor, Kyle Beverlin will officiate. 

Pallbearers will be Michael Boccia, Nathan Boccia, Cameron Royster, Brad Johnson, Evan Moss, and Gary Newcome. Burial will take place at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery of Joplin.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM immediately before the funeral service.
