Shirley Adams

Shirley June Adams, longtime resident of Baxter Springs, Kansas and Quapaw, Oklahoma area passed away on December 29th at her daughters home in Granby, Missouri surrounded by family after a 3 year battle with cancer.

Shirley was born to Doyle Adams and Florene Marie Adams in Mangum, Oklahoma on Sept 8th 1938. Shirley had a brother Claudie Nunn and a sister Wanda Stover.

Shirley grew up in Mangum and graduated from Mangum High School in 1956 and shared a bond with many lifelong friends from her graduating class. Shirley returned year after year back to Mangum to her alumni banquets to visit with her school friends.








Shirley married on September 8th,1956 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Elvis Leon Adams. Shortly after marriage moved to Oklahoma City where Elvis drove for Yellow Transit many years transferring to the Baxter Springs, Kansas Terminal where they stayed and raised their family.

Shirley was a homemaker raising her family of 4 children. After her family was raised. Shirley was active in Homemakers club, Red Hatters Club, Bunco club, and Senior Domino Club and did regular Volunteer work for The local Coleman Theater.

Shirley had countless close friends wherever she was. She loved to travel and did many cross-country trips and cruises with her friends and family and her neighbor and partner in crime, Claudette Green.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her husband, Elvis, her mother and father Doyle and Florene Adams, her brother Claudie Nunn and her brother-in-law and sister Pete and Wanda Stover.

Shirley is survived by her children, Bill and Melissa Adams of Baxter Springs Kansas, Debbie and Fred Arnall of Granby Missouri, Teresa and Randy Freeze of Liberal Missouri and Jim and Sheila Adams of Quapaw Oklahoma. A brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Ann Adams of Brighton, Colorado also 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and 2 more expected in 2021. Also survived by nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 4, 2021 at the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Shirley will be lying in state on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for those wishing to pay their respects. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
