Laurie Whaley

(From Parker Mortuary)

Laurie Ann Whaley, 64, of Carthage, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020 in the comfort of her home.

Laurie was born October 11, 1956 in Hawthorne, California to the union of the late Charles “Chuck” and Francess “Frankie” (Loyd) Gay.

Laurie was last employed as a machine operator with Schreiber Foods in Carthage, where she worked for nearly a decade. She attended Church of the Nazarene in Carthage.

On June 4, 2006, Laurie was united in marriage to Kelvin Whaley and the two of them shared in wonderful years of travel, love and true friendship.

Laurie was a talented gardener and grew beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed traveling to Greenville, South Carolina to visit her son every opportunity she had. Laurie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, as they were the brightest light in her life. She had a generous heart, a kind and caring spirit, and she truly never met a stranger. She was one hell of a cook and her gentle heart honored her love of animals, especially her dogs. Her passing leaves a great void in the lives of many and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Laurie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sam and Marie Loyd; and a son, Ricky Chacon.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Kelvin, of the home; her son, Jacob Friddle, of Greenville, South Carolina; her daughter, Amanda Chacon, of California; two step-children, Greg Stafford of Joplin and Stephanie Thorton of Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Carter, Caleb, and Allynah; three step-grandchildren, Nicole, Elizabeth and Wesley; her sister, Tonie Gay, of Sarcoxie; her aunt, Vicki Loyd; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Parker Mortuary with Minister Dave Talley officiating. Burial will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Kelvin Whaley, Jacob Friddle, Travis Whaley and Tim Owen serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1-2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
