Betty Shepherd

Betty Jo Shepherd, Pierce City, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2022 following a long illness. She was born on April 14, 1945 to Ruden and Maxine (Baker) Vandenberg in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a lifetime resident of Southwest Missouri.

Betty loved being a good steward of the land and rescuing animals in need. She graduated from Missouri State University with degrees in Chemistry and Biology. 







She worked alongside her husband and family at Shepherd Hardwood and Lumber Company for many years but also loved teaching elementary and junior high students in local schools. She was a talented artist in several mediums including fiber arts, stain glass, wood craft, cake and cookie decorating along with other pastries.

Betty and Robert Shepherd were married on June 11, 1961, and he preceded her in death on November 20, 2009. She is survived by two children, Dawn Murrey, Pierce City, and Denise Barratt and her husband Bruce, Asheville, NC, her grandson Noah, Candler, NC, his wife, Victoria and their three children Sparrow, Wiley and Violet, sister, Brenda Glore and husband James, Marshfield, MO along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara Kaisler and brother, Robert Vandenberg.

The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby, MO. The family asks that visitors at that time please wear a mask.

There will be a graveside service immediately following the visitation at 2 pm at the Newtonia IOOF Cemetery, Newtonia, Missouri.
