(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Glen Michael “Mike” Monahan, age 73, of Joplin, MO, passed from this life on Sunday May 8, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born on November 22, 1948, in Annapolis, MA at the Naval Academy Hospital, the son of the late John Tillman and Connie Ann (Centers) Monahan.
Mike served his country in the United States Air Force, a member of the 377 Combat Unit. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged. He then pursued a career as US Merchant Marine, retired.
On November 26, 2001, he married Joy Stout in Joplin. Together they owned and operated Pizza by Stout until it’s closing following the May 2011 tornado. Mike was a member of the Grand Lodge of F. & A.M. of Ohio Fairborn Lodge #764. He and Joy enjoyed traveling abroad.
He is survived by his loving wife Joy Monahan, Joplin, MO; his nephew, Casey Cusick, Tulsa, OK; his niece, Nicole Cusick, Denver, CO; a sister and a son.
Graveside Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, AR. Randy Wilson, Minister will officiate. Military Honors will be rendered. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project in care of the mortuary.
A Reception to honor Mike’s life will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Social BTB in the Griffon Building 1027 S. Main Suite 102, Joplin, MO.
