Arlene Stanley

Neva Arlene (Hewitt) Stonecipher Stanley, 85, of Parsons, died at 6:26 A.M., Monday, May 22, 2022, at her home, in the comfort of her family.

Arlene was born January 27, 1937, at Fort Scott, Kansas, a daughter of Reeve Franklin and Neva Leah (Sours) Hewitt. She was raised and attended school there, graduating from the Fort Scott High School in 1955.

She attended the Fort Scott Community College for a year and then moved to Independence, KS to write the social column for the Independence Daily Reporter. 








She later attended Pittsburg State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling and her Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in Counseling Psychology. 

From 1966 until 1979 she lived in Parsons and was first a secretary with the I.T.V. Program. She later taught fifth grade at the Lincoln Elementary School and later worked as a court services counselor in Parsons. 

In 1980 she moved to Miami, OK and taught at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. She then moved to Grove, OK where she was a school psychologist/counselor and taught children in the Gifted Program. Upon retiring from Grove Schools in 1999, she remained in Grove working as a Licensed Professional Counselor, assisting abused and neglected children until 2006. She lived at Olathe, Kansas for two years until returning to Parsons in 2008.

In June 1957 she and Daniel Earl Stonecipher were united in marriage at Fort Scott, Kansas. They had 6 children, all of whom grew up and attended school in the Parsons area. They divorced in 1982. She married Louis W. Stanley on March 13, 2006, in Grove, Oklahoma. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons – Daniel Eric Stonecipher, Joplin, Missouri, Jorn Farley Stonecipher, El Paso, Texas; four daughters – Danna Leigh Stonecipher, Las Vegas, Nevada, Theresa Dianne Stonecipher, Joplin, Missouri, Maria Delaine Hall, Derby, Kansas, Dawn Cathleen Hungerford, Albuquerque, New Mexico; fourteen grandchildren ; four great-grandchildren; many extended family members from her husband’s family.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Youth Crisis Shelter of Parsons, which she helped to create or to the Proud Animal Lovers Shelter and may be left at or mailed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, P.O.
