Jake Chancey

Jakalene “Jake” A. Chancey, 90, of Pittsburg, passed away at 11:12 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the Joplin Gardens in Joplin, Missouri.

She was born July 8, 1931 at Pittsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Orval Elmer “Cotton” and Verl Anna (Troxel) Clanton. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1949.

On May 22, 1951, she was united in marriage to Charles L. Chancey at Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1998.








Mrs. Chancey and her husband owned and operated Harry’s Café for many years before selling the café in 1991.

Membership was held in the First Christian Church. Mrs. Chancey was a Pink Lady for over 30 years, serving for over 5000 hours. She also loved gardening and was an avid birdwatcher. She was also an active member of the Kiwanis Club for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Chancey and his wife, Debby of Webb City, Missouri, Jeff Chancey and his wife Loren of Webb City, Missouri and Steve Chancey and his wife, Pamela of Pittsburg; a daughter, Diana Penrose and her husband, John of Springfield, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Justin, Randy, Katie, Brandon, Ryan, Kelly, Ellen, Ethan, and Nathan; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances J. Samuels and her husband, Bill of Pittsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Orval G. Clanton.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (May 19) at the First Christian Church in Pittsburg with Rev. Dustin Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the First Christian Church. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Brenner Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to First Christian Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
