(From Parker Mortuary)Mr. Herbert William “Joe” Mitchell, 80, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2022, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
Joe entered this life on September 17, 1941, Carthage, Missouri, son of the Bonnie and Anna Opal (Barker) Mitchell.
On June 23, 1962, in Los Angeles, California, he was united in marriage to Lynda Kaye Wood and together they have shared the last fifty-nine years. They resided in Downey, California before moving to Joplin in 1974.
Joe was a truck driver throughout his life, retiring from CFI. He enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were hunting, fishing and camping. Joe was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Joplin. Joe was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Marcella Sciber, Ruth Hall and Jack Mitchell.
Joe is survived by his wife, Lynda Mitchell of the home; a sister, Chris Decastro of Carl Junction; a special niece whom he thought of as a daughter, Chris E. Decastro and her daughter, Amanda, of Carl Junction; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Joplin, Missouri. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Joplin. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
