(From Clark Funeral Home)James ‘Jim’ H. Stephens, age 84 of Neosho, entered into rest on May 19, 2022, in Joplin, Missouri. Jim was born February 23, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri and moved to the area as a young child. He graduated from Rocky Comfort High School.
He began his career at U-Save Service station in Wyandotte, Oklahoma and then worked at Fairview Service Station. He moved to Neosho and worked at the Hereford House Restaurant for Sam and Grace Wolfinbarger, as a cook and manager for several years.
In 1967, he began Jim’s Mobil; later changing to Jim’s Conoco with his wife, Virgie and sons, Robert and Randy and operated that business for 41 years until his retirement. He had a lifelong love of raising cattle and did that for many years.
On May 19, 1957, in Rocky Comfort, Missouri, James and Virgie Jean Dickens were married and Virgie preceded him in death on December 4, 2009.
Jim is survived by two sons, Robert Stephens and wife, Lynn and Randy Stephens and wife, Gail, both of Neosho.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Tommy Burr will officiate. Interment will follow in the Rocky Comfort Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Tom Workman, Lee Booyer, Tim Booyer, Mike Baker, Rodney Baker and Darren Brewer.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to the Newton County Cancer Council, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, Missouri, 64850.
