(From Ozark Funeral Home)Mrs. Mary Alice O’Brien, 80, of Lanagan, Missouri, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday evening, May 11, 2022, in the comfort of her home after a recent decline in health.
Mary entered this life on March 7, 1942, Bernalillo, New Mexico, one of five children born to the late Roy and Cuba (Brotherton) Slater. At age seven, she moved with her family to Bentonville, Arkansas.
Later at age sixteen, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she finished high school, only to return to Bentonville following graduation.
On January 27, 1962, she was united in marriage to Donald Eugene O’Brien and together they shared fifty years before his passing on February 15, 2012. Besides being a devoted homemaker, Mary also assisted her husband in the operation of the family businesses, including O’Brien Farms. Mary was also instrumental in the creation and operation of Ponderosa Trails. She enjoyed going to the horse track, traveling and trail riding with her beloved husband, Don. Most importantly, in September of 2019, Mary accepted Christ as her Personal Lord and Savior. We celebrate her life and look forward to that glad reunion day.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald O’Brien; three sons, Dick, John, and David O’Brien; and four siblings, Jimmy, Karmen, Barbara, and Joyce.
Mary is survived by three sons, Donnie O’Brien and wife, Tammy, of Pineville, Kelly O’Brien and wife, Tabitha, of Lanagan and Jason O’Brien of Pineville; two daughters, Marsha Douglas and husband, Jary, of Grove and Kathy Brooks and husband, Bruce, of Marietta, Oklahoma; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; as well as a host of other family and countless friends.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Marilyn O’Brien officiating. Burial will follow at the O’Brien Family Cemetery near Lanagan, Missouri.
