(From Ulmer Funeral Home)
James “Jim” W. Dotson, 88 of Carthage, Missouri, went to join his one true love, Shirley, his wife, on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
Jim was born in Enough, Missouri on June 15, 1933 to Hillard Hampton Dotson and Elsie Alice “Payne” Dotson. He served his country as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army for 28 years.
After retiring from the U.S. Army, he moved to Carthage in 1976. Jim taught R.O.T.C. and wood shop through the Carthage R-9 School district.
Gardening, fishing, and rooting for the Cardinals were some of his favorite past times. He loved being outdoors and was an avid wood worker. He was a hardworking father who wanted the best for his children and grandchildren. His happiest moments and some of his fondest memories were those times spent with his wife, his children and grandchildren whether just hanging out or sharing a meal together. His sense of humor and his unique personality will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim was joined in marriage by Shirley Isabel “Torisky” on October 8, 1952; she preceded him in death on September 9, 2020.
He is survived by one son Glen Dotson from Carthage; two daughters Karen Myers (Rex) from Diamond; Kathy Vice (Robert) from Purdy; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by one son, James W. Dotson Jr.; his parents, Hillard and Elsie Dotson; and his six older sisters.
