Charles McQuillan

Charles E. McQuillan, 87, of Baxter Springs, Kansas, passed away on August 12, 2026.

Charles was born on March 4, 1939, in Noel, Missouri, to the late Louis Charles and Flossie McQuillan.

He spent his early childhood years in Noel and Southwest City, Missouri. He later moved to Grenola, Kansas, where he attended high school, before ultimately settling in Baxter Springs, Kansas where he resided for the last 62 years.

A proud veteran, Charles served his country honorably in the United States Army as a Military Policeman (MP) stationed in Germany. His commitment to his fellow service members continued throughout his life as a member of the American Legion in Baxter Springs.

Charles was known for his strong work ethic and mechanical skills. He spent over 30 years trimming trees for the Shade Tree Service Company and took great pride in his work as a mechanic. When he wasn't working, Charles was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was a passionate member of the Jayhawk Bass Club, frequently competing in local bass tournaments. Above all else, Charles valued the time he spent working with his hands and making memories with his family.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Linda McQuillan (Price); his daughter, Lennie McMinn, husband Brett; and his son, Doty McQuillan, wife Tabitha. A sister, Alma Dennis of Marionville, MO. He also leaves behind a legacy of five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Charles McQuillan, and his mother, Flossie McQuillan.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at Derfelt Funeral Home in Baxter Springs on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 10:00 am. Burial will follow immediately at Hill Crest Cemetery in Galena, Kansas. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
