Larry Lloyd

True to his gentle spirit and loving heart, William Lawrence Lloyd (Larry) passed away at his home August 14th, 2026 quietly and peacefully, leaving the world just as he lived in it. His Grandmother Grace, a midwife delivered him in Hutton Valley, Mo. on May 25th, 1945.

He was raised in Winona, Mo with his parents who owned the Rexall Drug store on the square. Larry was baptized at church camp at the age of 9 and was faithful throughout his life. As an adult, he would later have the privilege of baptizing his granddaughter Marina at 9 also. He was a member of Christ's Church of Oronogo, and served on the Missionary Committee. He showed his faith through his every day presence, and the tangible ways he supported the people in his life. He quietly and consistently put his belief into practice by serving his community and caring for his family.

At 14, he became a ham radio operator, a lifelong hobby. This hobby expanded his horizons as he made contact with over 110 countries and islands. Being a ham also would contribute to his love of travel. He loved playing basketball, and was on the HS basketball and baseball teams. He also was a lifelong MU fan, as was his Dad.

Larry was a graduate of SMSU, and completed ROTC. He then entered the Army as a Lieutenant, became a Captain spending 2 years in Germany and 1 in Vietnam from 1967-1970. He was a recipient of both the Bronze Star for meritorious service, and the Air Medal delivering highly classified documents in a helicopter over a combat zone.

Larry took Mary as his wife on June 8th, 1974 and was devoted to her for 52 years. They were blessed with 2 children, Rachel and Adam, and numerous pets, including his beloved Luci. He was a constant source of love, devotion, support and wisdom to his family. For a pastime he started sailing, and with his family he spent many weekends aboard Summer Memories.

His career consisted of managing 3 sheltered workshops that hired people with disabilities. He managed Innovative Industries in Carthage, Mo. for 30 years. Larry was deeply devoted to his employees, and under his entrepreneurship they received the highest average income in the state for overall compensation per worker. During this time in Carthage, he also served as President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1987 and '88, United Way Chairman in 1990, and the Lion's Club Citizen of the Year in 1982-3.

Upon retiring, he and his wife moved to Ecuador, SA to enjoy sunsets, the beach and the simple life of a fishing village together for 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his father Jack Lloyd, his mother Edith, and his sister Lisa Louann Guerra.

He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Lloyd, brothers Jackson Lloyd and Alan Lloyd (Meghan), children Jaron Rachel Lloyd and Adam Lawrence Lloyd, granddaughter Marina Jade Lloyd, and great granddaughters Emberlyn Larae and Vanessa Brielle, along with 2 nieces, 1 nephew, and several great nieces and nephews.
