Troy Henson

(From Ozark Funeral Home)

Troy Douglas Henson, 95, of Pineville, MO passed away on Friday, August 14th, 2026. He was born October 28th, 1930, in Pineville, MO to Frank and Myrtle Henson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Georgia Henson, Fern Davidson Acosta, Martin Henson, James “Bub” Henson, Ruby Brockman, Clayton Henson, Shirley Boatright, Doris Stephens, and Carol Corcoran Sammann.

Troy grew up on Brush Creek south of Pineville, MO. After noticing Zelda Schell, the love of his life, he asked his brother Clayton to see if she would go on a date with him. Zelda said yes, even though Troy picked her up in a flatbed log truck. Clayton always joked that he asked for the date, but Troy was the one who took her out. Troy and Zelda were married in Huntsville, AR, on November 3rd, 1951, and spent the next 74 years and 10 months together.

A lifelong hard worker, Troy held several jobs over the years. In 1956, he and Zelda settled in Tulsa, OK, where they lived for the next 18 years. Troy worked at a service station, drove a freight delivery truck, and later had the opportunity to start a trash-hauling business in Tulsa, as did three of his brothers.

After building a successful career in sanitation, Troy had the opportunity to return to McDonald County when he was offered the trash service contract for the city of Anderson. He later added service to Pineville, Goodman, and many rural customers. Later in life, he was proud to sell the business to his son Brook, who continued to expand it.

Never one to sit still, Troy planted 600 plus tomato plants and, at harvest time, picked the tomatoes and drove them to Tulsa to sell to his brother Martin for $1.00 per pound. Martin then resold them for $2.00 per pound at his produce stand. Troy became known to many as the Tomato Man, supplying tomatoes to people throughout the area.

Troy was active in the community, serving three terms on the McDonald County School Board and later two terms as county commissioner. He often joked, “I made half the people mad serving on the school board, and the other half mad serving as commissioner.”

Troy’s commitment to Jesus was always his highest priority. He lived by biblical principles and sought to be a godly example. He loved studying his Bible and sharing the message of Jesus, salvation, and eternal life in Christ. He served faithfully in the church as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and music leader. His leadership and example as a godly man leaves a lasting legacy for his children and grandchildren. At the time of his passing, Troy was a member of First Baptist Church in Southwest City, MO.

Troy loved Jesus, loved Zelda, loved his family, and he worked hard in every job he held. He leaves behind an example of faith, devotion, and perseverance for the family he cherished, loved, and prayed for continually.

He is survived by his wife Zelda Henson of Pineville, MO, Daughter, Darla Grimm and husband Rob of Centerton, AR, Daughter, Ronna Wabaunsee and husband John of Pineville, MO, Son, Blake Henson and wife Sandy of Springdale, AR, Daughter, Kimberly Yada and husband Greg of Maumelle, AR, Son, Brook and wife Melissa of Pineville, MO, Brother, Glen Henson and wife Sundy of Neosho, MO
