Todd Humbard

Todd William Humbard, age 42, of Carterville, Mo. passed away Wednesday, June 4,2014 following a brave 19 month battle with a gliobalstoma brain tumor.

Todd was born July 15, 1971 in Kansas City, Mo. to Mickey and Emily Humbard. He graduated from Monett High School in 1989 and Mo. Southern State Univ. in 1993 with a degree in political science.

Todd spent his life caring for others, especially his beloved grandmother, Eva, whom he cared for until her death. Todd was known for his kindness, generosity, and quick wit. He was also known for his extensive knowledge and love for all things Star Wars.

Todd was preceded in death by his Father, Mickey Humbard, and his beloved grandparents, William and Eva Carr. Survivors include his Mother, Emily Humbard of the home, two sisters, Tiffany Hoerning and husband Ken, Joplin, and Tina Burton, Winterville, N. Carolina, beloved nephews, Kellen and Kannon Hoerning, and nieces Cassie Maxwell, Brandee Bryant, and Ambyr Henniger.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Van Buren (Black Fox) Cemetery, east of Diamond, Mo. with Stan Parkison, Minister, Wayne Baker and Daniel Dillon, officiating. Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. Sunday at the Hedge-Lewis Chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home of Webb City, Mo.

Ronald McDermott

Ronald Rutledge McDermott, 81, Granby, died June 5, 2014 from injuries sustained in a two vehicle accident near Diamond. Ron was born Sept. 19, 1932 and was a lifelong area resident. He was a self-employed carpenter, avid fisherman and gardener and a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. Ron and Quetta Green were married on April 11, 1950 and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2007. Ron is survived by six children, Bruce McDermott and wife, Billie; Rex McDermott and Geneva Hadley and husband, Gary all of Granby; Cheryl Barkfelt and husband, Mike, Langley, OK; Shad Strong and wife, Viviana, Wyandotte, OK and Shelli Woodall and husband, Calvin, Bernice, OK; nine grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.

Peggy Webb

Peggy Jean Webb, age 72, of Joplin, Mo. passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Peggy was born December 24, 1941 to the late Floyd and Ola G. Gourley Channel in Joplin. Peggy graduated from the Galena, KS High School and later from Crowder College and Missouri Southern State College where she received her degree in social services. She also served her country in the United States Army Reserves. Peggy worked as a Social Worker for the Arkansas Department of Family Services. In her free time, Peggy enjoyed quilting and running from garage sale to estate sale.

Peggy married John A. Webb on May 1, 1958 in Miami, OK. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include eight sons, John C. Webb of Palastine, TX, Brandon Webb of Joplin, Brian Webb of Palastine, TX, Aaron Webb and wife Anna of Palastine, TX, Billy Webb of Dallas TX, Johnathan Webb of Palastine, TX, Thomas W. Webb of Palastine, TX, Charles Colby Webb of Northville, Mass; two daughters, Kathy Webb of Springdale, AR, Terrie Hendrickson and husband Arin of Eureka Springs, AR; brothers, Billy Channel and wife Karen of Joplin, Bobby Channel and wife Cathy of Springfield, MO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren plus many extended family and friends.

Services are planned for Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Parker Chapel. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, MO.

Miranda Doerr

Miranda Joann Doerr, age 3, of Joplin, went to her Heavenly Home on June 2, 2014, at Freeman Hospital, following injuries sustained in an accident.

Miranda was born on July 12, 2010, the daughter of Michael and Jennifer (Felkner) Doerr. Her beautiful and sweet smile will be greatly missed.

Miranda is survived by her parents, Michael and Jennifer Doerr, Joplin; three brothers, Christopher Doerr, Fort Jackson, S.C., Wesley Doerr and Jeremy Doerr, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Skip and Tina Felkner, Lamar, Mo.; great-grandparents, Clarence Sweeney, Carthage, and C.L. and Retha Squires, Lamar, Mo.; and Godmother, Vivian Hooker. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John and Mary Doerr; maternal great-grandpa, Everett F. Felkner Jr.; and maternal great-grandma, Barbara Sweeney.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Joe Morris will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday prior to the service at Mason-Woodard.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Miranda Doerr Memorial Fund, established at Community Bank and Trust in care of the mortuary.

Dorothy Solomonson

Dorothy Solomonson, 92, passed away June 4, 2014 in Carthage, Missouri. 

Dorothy was born the youngest of nine children May 21, 1922 in Avilla, MO to Henry Lee Johnson and Martha A. (Shands) Johnson. She was a lifetime area resident. Dorothy was a housewife and had worked at H.E. Williams during WWII. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carthage for 60 years. Dorothy was a member of the Carthage Garden Club and a member of the music society. 

Dorothy was united in marriage to Clyde E. Slates January 5, 1944 in Columbus, KS he preceded her in death September 23, 1985. Dorothy was then married to Carl A. Solomonson, he preceded her in death August of 1991. Dorothy is survived by two daughters June Griffith and husband Bob Sr. of Carthage, and Joyce Vanlue and husband Mike of Neosho, one son Jack Slates and wife Jeanie of Carthage, seven grandchildren Lori Cooley (Walt), Bobby Griffith Jr. (Cynthia), Christy Mathern, Michael Slates (Laura), Josh Slates, Justin Slates (Alexis) and James Slates, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters, and two grandchildren Ronald Eugene Lindsay and Jamison Lee Slates.

 Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday June 9, 2014 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday June 6, 2014 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Randy Scott

Marvin Randolph “Randy” Scott, age 64 of Carthage, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital after an illness of over one year.

Born December 15, 1949 in Springfield, MO, he was the son of the late Harold and Wanda Scott. Randy graduated from high school and attended MSSU. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Medical Technician for over 11 years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He also worked at V.A. Medical Centers and was a civil service employee of the F.D.I.C. He was a Roman Catholic and belonged to the D.A.V.

He married Helena S. Chong in 1977. She survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Natalie Cook and husband Sam of Kansas City, MO; a son, Brian Scott of Missouri; a grandson, Jonah Cook; two brothers, Chris and Craig Scott; and a sister, Barbara.

Two siblings, Stephen Scott and Jennifer Scott, preceded him in death.

Graveside services with Military Rites will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Daisy Hodges

Daisy Marie Collier Hodges, age 84 of Joplin, passed away at Garden Terrace of Overland Park, KS. on Sunday, June 1, 2014.

Born August 5, 1929 in Nickerson, KS, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Emma Lawrence Collier and had lived in Joplin since 1976, moving from Lenexa, KS. She and her husband owned and operated the former Hodges Grocery on South 43 Hwy near Joplin. She also was a greeter at Wal-Mart for nine years. Daisy was a member of Christ’s Community United Methodist Church, a volunteer for Area Agency on Aging and was active in Joplin Senior Bowling League.

On September 20, 1947 she married Roy N. Hodges in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death December 31, 1988. A son, Neil Hodges, also preceded her in 2008.

Survivors include a son, Roy Hodges and wife Lettie of Webb City; three daughters, Shari Adams and husband Jerry of Webb City, Willa Franklin of Westfield, IN, Jo Ann Verheaghe and husband Jerry of Bucyrus, KS; a brother, Jon Collier of Camdenton, MO; two sisters, Juanita Harrington of Castle Rock, CO, Beverly Thompson and husband Clarence of Galena, MO; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parker Chapel. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Roy Neil Hodges, Jeremy Hodges, Aaron Hodges, Trey Tripp, Phillip Adams and Anthony Verheaghe serving as pallbearers. Brett Graham, Tanner Hodges and Cohen Hodges will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
