Nelson Nichols

Mr. Carl Nelson Nichols, Jr., 87, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, December 28, 2015, at the Freeman Hospital in Neosho, Missouri, after a sudden illness.

Nelson entered this life on February 2, 1928, in El Paso, Texas, son of the late Carl Nichols, Sr. and Henrietta Louise (Oliver) Nichols. He was raised in Hollywood, California, and was a 1945 graduate of Hollywood High School. He resided in Lakeside, California, before moving to Moore, Oklahoma, in 1967. Nelson was a Minister of the Church of Christ, surrendering to the ministry at the age of seventeen. He also worked for a period of time in pharmaceutical sales and as a realtor. On February 16, 1970, he was united in marriage to Earlene Eaves and together they have shared the last forty-five years. In 1974, he and Earlene moved their family to Anderson, Missouri. Shortly after moving to Anderson, he decided to further his education by attending Crowder College and Missouri Southern State College, earning his Master’s Degree in Education at the age of fifty. He began employment with the McDonald County School District, first teaching art and eventually becoming principal and teacher at both White Rock and Rocky Comfort. In 2004, he retired as the Anderson Elementary School Counselor. In his spare time he enjoyed, reading, woodworking and art projects.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Naoma Carlene Nichols, his parents; four brothers, Ray, Eddie, Charlie, and David Nichols; a sister, Louise King; and a great granddaughter, Carly Ann Nichols.

Nelson is survived by his wife, Earlene Nichols of the home; five sons, Carl N. “Nick” Nichols, III and wife, Sally, of Neosho, Missouri, Ed Rylan Nichols and wife, Joy, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brad N. Nichols of Anderson, Missouri, Barton J. Nichols and wife, Michelle, of Joplin, Missouri, and Paul R. Nichols and wife, Shaine, of Claremore, Oklahoma; three daughters, Machelle D. Nelson and husband, Roy, of Riverbank, California, Jessica D. Nelson and husband, Nate, of Wichita, Kansas, and Sandy J. Nichols also of Wichita; twenty-three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Paul O. Nichols of Overland Park, Kansas, and Richard F. Nichols of Birmingham, Alabama; a sister, Betty Jean Middick of Springfield, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Nichols are 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2016, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Ronny F. Wade and Carl M. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Peace Valley Cemetery in Anderson, Missouri. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Jared, Etienne, Uriah, David and Josiah Nichols and Clay Nelson. Matthew, Cameron, Brock and Jason Nichols and Levi Nelson will be serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
